When a Father Becomes a Disciple of His Son...
Posted by Swami Anand Kul Bhushan    Monday, September 17, 2012 at 06:32
A unique event occurred in the history of Master and Disciple relationship when Osho's father, Swami Devateerth Bharti, surrendered to Osho as his disciple. He announced this decision at 3 a m and informed Osho's Secretary of his decision to become Osho's disciple.

Osho agreed and put his mala – rosary – around his neck and gave him his new name - Swami Devateerth Bharti. He loved kirtan and went into deep meditation during this song and dance devotion.

When he became ill, he was taken to a hospital and Osho's sannyasis cared for him. One day, Osho went to the hospital to see him, blessed him and returned. When Swami Devateerth Bharti left his body on 8 September 1979, Osho said that he had become enlightened. Since that time, 8 September has been celebrated as Mahaparinirvan Day to celebrate all sannyasins, past and future, who have died and will die enlightened. This day is celebrated by all Sannyasins and lovers of Osho all over the world.

To mark this day, Osho World premiered a short film that was first shown at Osho World galleria and later on 8 September at Oshodham in Delhi and also at Nisarga, Dharamsala. At Osho World galleria Swami Anand Kul Bhushan outlined the background about this celebration and Swami Chaitanya Keerti shared some personal memories of Swami Devateerth Bharti.
