Swami Satya Vedant'S RESPONSE TO THE ARTICLE IN INDIA TODAY

One thing that strikes so vividly is that Pritish seems to be so sex fixated, that it covers his entire view of the sky – while writing the article he seems to be seeing, breathing, and wallow in nothing but sex. It clearly shows that as he removed that one tile of the magnanimous roof he saw not the ‘sky’ but ‘sex’. In that incredibly created and designed city incorporated in the state of Oregon, in Pritish’s words “ America’s bleakest state”, USA, an ecological marvel built from the scratch and the enormous creative energy poured by Osho lovers who came from around the world, Pritish’s eyes were fixed mainly on the “tiny shorts, tightly tied blouse, great cleavage.”

As I look back, I distinctly recall my meeting Pritish in his office many years ago. He was then the editor of Illustrated Weekly in Mumbai. In that meeting, he earnestly asked me to have Osho (then known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh) give his vision based on about fifteen questions prepared by Pritish. The questions ranged from Babri Masjid to women and their status in the society. Topics also included issues related to Education, population, etc. Pritish was working on publishing a special issue of the Weekly, based on Osho’s views, which he titled “If I Ran India”. When the questions were brought to Osho’s attention he felt that it would be good if Pritish came to the Rajneesh Commune, Pune, in person and ask the questions but he did not make the trip.

It is interesting that Pritish passes a judgment declaring an enlightened mystic, a spiritual Master Osho “rock star gone wrong”. One wonders what criteria Pritish applied to make such a brash statement. Is he himself a meditator? Has he pursued various spiritual paths – of the East and the West on which Osho has commented in his enormously insightful thousands of audio and video discourses? Has Pritish participated and experienced any of the hundreds of meditation techniques designed by Osho? In the fairness of journalistic profession he should have first laid down the criteria prompting him to evaluate Osho as “gone wrong”.

Also, one wonders, would it not have been meaningful and intelligent for Pritish to have talked and solicited views, feelings, and experiences of any of the thousands of Osho friends, disciples, and lovers in Rajneeshpuram, India or for that matter anyone from around the world.

It is indeed shocking and disappointing to see India Today publishing such a trashy piece of article. Including Pritish Nandy’s article in its special issue shows, to our complete dismay, how disrespectful India Today proved itself towards its esteemed and learned readership by taking them completely for granted and undermining the reader’s intelligence. India Today, it appears, certainly did not adhere to publishing an “objective” reporting by a responsible journalist but rather opting a purely subjective and prejudiced outpouring of a journalistic mind staying away from Truth.
