Inaugurated by Hon’ble MP & TV Actor-producer Smriti Irani

“Colours of Earth”, an exhibition of handwoven and naturally dyed textiles by Avani, an NGO working in Kumaon was launched by Hon’ble MP (RS) & TV Actor-Producer Smriti Irani at Osho World Galleria, BG – 09, Ansal Plaza, New Delhi on the morning of November 25, 2011.
Praising the efforts of Avani and Osho World, Ms. Irani said that Violence often erupts due to hunger and both the organizations are working to eradicate hunger of people living in remote villages in Uttaranchal by providing them livelihood and has in turn setting example of non-violence.
She added that if we transmit our sensibilities and sensitivities to our next generation in the form of heritage, then we will leave the earth better than we found it.
Avani is a voluntary organization working in the middle ranges of the Central Himalayan region and is involved with various activities mainly aiming at the optimal utilization of available resources to the best possible extent. Among various activities of Avani includes its efforts towards enhancing livelihood opportunities by developing existing craft like spinning, weaving and natural dyeing of wool, introducing new fibres like wild silks and disseminating technology. Avani has developed and disseminated solar technology as a viable option to meet the energy needs in the mountain area.
On display, purely hand woven, naturally dyed and environment friendly products like sarees, shawls, mufflers, stoles, tweed jackets and readymade garments in wool, silk and wool and pure silk. Avani also brings out an entire range of new products of blended fabrics with natural fibers like wool, oak tussar, tussar, mulberry, eri, munga, pashmina, angora and linen.
Recently Avani started a range of ponchos and jackets, organic paints and soft toys for kids.
