PATTERNS IN CLAY
Osho, the enlightened master says – “The only way to be one with the creator is to be in some moment of creativity, when you are lost. The potter is lost in making his pottery; the potter is lost while working on the wheel. Those are the peak moments, where you touch God, where God touches you.”
Osho World Galleria at Ansal Plaza opens “Patterns in Clay”, from the 5th of December, a show of studio pottery, as a continuation of the series of Art exhibitions that they organize.
The exhibition will be launched by Multi Instrumentalist Prem Joshua at 6.00 pm at the galleria.
The Galleria is known as a center of innovative high-fired stoneware - in a combination of functional as well as sculptural ceramics. On display are the works of several artists – both the seasoned, well known and the promising, up-coming ones.
The galleria manifests the vision of providing a platform to display various forms of art and creativity for the artists, and a place to experience beauty and aesthetics for the art lovers.
“Patterns in Clay” showcases the works of two veteran artists Manisha Bhattacharya and Madhur Sen along with the work of six of their students. The exhibition promises a visual treat and creative stimulation for all, with a variety of work on display.
Madhur Sen
Sculptor and Potter Madhur Sen’s work, predominantly revolves around earthenware, stoneware and porcelain clay combining forms on the potter’s wheel along with hand sculpting techniques. Fascinated by animal and human forms, she works on sculptures, which interpret the natural flow of the living forms. Madhur also creates some exciting purely functional studio pottery.
“My aim is to bring out the soul and breathe life into the ball of clay. I try to find the delicate balance between form and content without losing spontaneity and workability.”
Manisha Bhattacharya
For several years now, Potter Manisha Bhattacharya has concentrated on Raku, a traditional Japanese pottery technique. Manisha’s work has an essential Zen quality to it with an emphasis on the simplicity of the form dramatized by a subtle twist in contours or contrast. The rhythmic patterns of Raku add tenderness as well as a sense of calm to each piece as she continues her journey with white clay and smoke.
“The sheen of burnished clay weaves a magic spell, inspiring me to embark on a journey of swirling smoke and undulating forms”
Teaching ceramic sculpture and pottery in her own studio for a long time now, Madhur brings the work of three very promising students of hers – Roshni Senapati, Ritika Furtado & Susan Karian. Along side are the works of Manisha’s gifted students Dipti Gupta, Shruti Bansal and Sheena Jaywant Singh. Carrying forward their learning, each of these budding artist explores a different path as they step out of the shadow of their teacher, establishing a unique style of their own, they present both wheelwork and hand sculpted forms.
As one walks through the galleria, beholding each piece, with sufi music playing in the background – for those moments if you allow the energy to transpire into you, one is transported to a different world and the hustle bustle of the market place, that is just outside the glass doors of the galleria, seem so far away.
