Art of Centering: A Group show of Studio Pottery was launched by Sufi-Kathak danseuse Manjari Chaturvedi on December 23, 2011 at Osho World galleria, BG-09, Ansal Plaza, New Delhi.

The show is open from December 23, 2011 to January 19, 2012.

The participating artists are:
Manisha Bhattacharya
Madhur Sen
Leena Dewan
Saudamini Mishra
Somnath Raha

For several years now, Potter Manisha Bhattacharya has concentrated on Raku, a traditional Japanese pottery technique. Manisha’s work has an essential Zen quality to it with an emphasis on the simplicity of the form dramatized by a subtle twist in contours and contrast. The rhythmic patterns of Raku add tenderness as well as a sense of calmness to each piece as she continues her journey with white clay and smoke.

Sculptor and Potter Madhur Sen’s work, predominantly revolves around earthenware, stoneware and porcelain clay combining forms on the potter’s wheel along with hand sculpting techniques. Fascinated by animal and human forms, she works on sculptures, which interpret the natural flow of the living forms. Madhur also creates some exciting purely functional studio pottery.

Leena enjoys working on the wheel with coil method and slab. He work is inspired by NATURE. Every coil in her work reflects nature, which is not stagnant but continuously changing , flowing and taking a new form everytime.

Saudamani’s tryst with clay has been an enlightening one. She has a predilection for hands and legs and has tried best to fuse this with her love for clay. She feels, that clay, being the impressionable medium that it is, is most appropriate for the purpose of expressing the various aspects of the human composition.

Somnath is a contemporary sculptor who loves to play with unique ideas and give a unique style and form to his creations. Somnath has been trained from Kala bhavan, Shantiniketan and has participated in numerous exhibitions.
