Olga Kowalski comes bouncing enthusiastically downstairs in her new Kung Fu outfit. Kowalski takes one look at her, and puts his hand over his face. "Good God, Olga!" groans Kowalski. "Now what are you doing?" "I'm taking Kung Fu lessons," says Olga, proudly -- and she playfully slices the air with her hand, giving Kowalski a punch on the neck. "It is just in case," explains Olga, "some sex-fiend tries to rape me on some dark night." "Why bother?" remarks Kowalski, slurping his beer. "It will never get that dark!"

Happy, Here. Now!
Laughter Week celebrated at Osho World

It was more than 'House Full' at Osho World Galleria in New Delhi for the climax of the 2002 Laughter Week in the first seven days of 2002.

Leading Hindi poet and humourist Surendra Sharma had avid listeners responding to every joke and witty comment with gales of full-throated laughter. Surendra Sharma put into hilarious practice Osho's message - 'Be a joke unto yourself' - and regaled the laughing meditators with what he termed as the disasters of matrimony. With tongue in cheek, he advised all married men to follow certain principles for survival. The first one of these is to never return home with a smile on one's face - doing so means that the wife thinks that her husband is having an affair with another woman! Rule Number two is to enter the home with a glum face so that your wife is concerned about you and takes good care of you with tea and sympathy or even a soft smile. Rule number three is to be on the alert when the wife starts to smile early in the morning, as it is a sure sign that she wants a few thousand dollars.

An long time Osho disciple, Swami Satish Satyarthi (Satish Nanda) conducted Osho's laughing meditation by unfettered laughter for 15 minutes followed by complete silence to absorb all the energy deep within oneself. This pin drop silence was followed by celebration music with which everyone danced to express their joy.

A crew from Door Darshan - the National TV channel of India - filmed the proceedings for the channel ands conducted live interviews with the Group leaders and participants. This was telecast a few days later on the national network.

In his famous book "Meditation: The Art of Ecstasy " Osho says: "We are so attached to our suffering that laughing happens, generally, only as a release of tension. Only rarely, very rarely, does laughing happen without cause. We cannot laugh, we cannot be happy; even in our laughing there is pain. But laughing is so beautiful, such a deep cleansing, a deep purification."

Everyone experienced this high energy generated by laughter, the total silence and the deep purification. An exhibition of his rib-tickling cartoons by famous cartoonist Sudhir Tailang was the highlight of the week. "The whole play of existence is so beautiful that laughter can be the only response to it. Only laughter can be the real prayer, gratitude," says Osho.
