Olga Kowalski comes bouncing enthusiastically downstairs in her new Kung Fu outfit. Kowalski takes one look at her, and puts his hand over his face. "Good God, Olga!" groans Kowalski. "Now what are you doing?" "I'm taking Kung Fu lessons," says Olga, proudly -- and she playfully slices the air with her hand, giving Kowalski a punch on the neck. "It is just in case," explains Olga, "some sex-fiend tries to rape me on some dark night." "Why bother?" remarks Kowalski, slurping his beer. "It will never get that dark!"

QIGONG: Stimulating the Inner Energy
Swami Viram energizes meditators in Delhi

It was QIGONG time for meditators in Delhi, the capital of India, during the 2001-2002 festive season. Qigong is a Chinese system of breathing, stretching, visualization and movement, stimulating the internal energy. Swami Viram, a famous therapist and Osho disciple from Holland, lead his special dance meditation - Eastern Dance Sport in Delhi at several venues including Osho Dham and Osho Rajyoga Meditation Centre. The leading newspaper group, The Times of India, sponsored one of Viram's qigong sessions featuring it in its leading papers.

Eastern dance sport consists of Chinese qigong, stretching, lots of dancing and centering exercises. Based on movement and music, Eastern Dance Sport is all about the pleasure to move, dance and feel the aliveness of your body. Chinese qigong is used as a warming up to stimulate the circulation and open different centers in the body so that the dance will be a experience of totality, joy and soul.

The first center is the belly or hara, from where all the life energy starts, through various qigong and stretching exercises we will open and stimulate this center. From the hara the energy will be taken upwards to the heart center, a center of feelings and emotions, this will be experienced in the dance. The dance is all about the joy of feeling alive and expressing yourself in movement. After the dance the energy will move again more upwards to the third eye. In this part we will experience the stillness of the body and mind. The dance has no fixed steps and the latest music from the Amsterdam club scene was used.

Swami Viram has been working for over 20 years with dance and qigong, he trained as a professional dancer in New York, and has been performing and giving workshops worldwide. At present he is living and working in Amsterdam, teaching Eastern Dance Sport, giving private consultations.
