HUMAN EGGS AND BAR CODES By Ma Anand Bhagawati

A rather unnerving headline caught my eye a few days ago: “Human Eggs Grown in the Lab Could Produce Unlimited Supply of Humans”. Unlimited supply? Isn’t this planet already enormously overpopulated and its resources being wrung out before our very eyes to feed the 7 (yes, seven!) billion people presently alive? You can watch the numbers of births as they happen via this link - www.worldometers.info/world-population/ - at the time of writing it accounted for 7,036,075,841 humans. But back to the issue.

I think it is about time to stop breeding humans the old way and rather get them going in a laboratory in a selective and intelligent manner, without overloading the planet.  Osho has foreseen this and also emphasizes that if children are created in a laboratory, women will have much more energy to pursue their creativeness:

“Sooner or later children can be produced in the labs; they have already succeeded in having test-tube babies. The woman need not carry the child in the womb for nine months; we can create a better womb in the laboratory, we can create better children through scientific methodology -- and the woman can be completely freed from the burden of remaining pregnant; and once her energies are released she will be able to be creative. But I think man is afraid of her creativity. She can certainly surpass man's creativity; naturally she is more endowed with creativity.
I am all for creativity but remember, reproduction is not creativity; they are not synonymous. Creativity is something conscious, reproduction is unconscious. Creativity is meditative, reproduction has nothing to do with meditation at all.
But man has just been using the woman almost like cattle. He has been using the woman to raise HIS children; he has been using the woman just as a farm. That's exactly the meaning of the word 'husband': husband means 'the farmer'. Agriculture means husbandry: the wife is the field and the husband is the farmer, and the wife's only function is to give a good crop every year.
The woman can never be liberated unless this is understood: that she has to stop this past pattern. And man has been telling her, "You are great because you give birth to children!" This is a rationalization, this is a consolation. Beware of such tricks. Man has exploited woman in every possible way and it is time to finish this exploitation.”

Philosophia Ultima, Ch 16, Q 1

Rebecca Boyle of ‘Popular Science’ (POPSCI) reports this month that “The first human eggs grown from human stem cells could be fertilized with human sperm cells later this year, potentially revolutionizing fertility treatment for women.” At the same time it has been reported by Reuters that nearly one third of babies conceived through certain fertility treatments are tied to a higher risk of birth defects; the risk was 37% higher than that of children conceived the old way.

Major birth defects such as the malformation of a limb or organ occur in about three out of every 100 babies born in the USA. A 37% increase would bump that rate for four out of every 100 babies. This is unacceptable and shows that although scientists have made a huge inroad towards breeding humans, the assisted reproductive technology has still many snags and pitfalls to sort out.

Research has also shown there is a possibility that people who have trouble conceiving and undergo fertility treatments, could likewise have an increased risk of having a baby with a birth defect. Another possible danger is the technique of handling the embryos and also the drugs that are administered to the mother to be.

In order not to mix up any of the eggs during IVF procedures (in 2002 a ‘white couple’ gave birth to ‘black’ twins), researchers at the Autonomous University of Barcelona went one step further to gain more control. By using cells from mouse embryos and eggs, they managed to insert microscopic silicon bar codes into a gap between the cell membrane and an outer membrane called the zona pellucida. Next step will be tests on human embryos and eggs.  I shudder to think what consequences this barcode, even though miniscule, could have on the health of the embryo… It would be advisable to drop all research for IVF improvements and rather focus on production in laboratories.

In Osho’s revolutionary vision there will be a time when mass production through animalistic sex is replaced by giving scientific birth to children. Women will have to drop the idea that their egg is special, and men that their semen is extraordinary. He says,

“The scientific birth of a child is not animalistic. You are transcending the animal by giving birth to a child scientifically. It is fascinating, the greatest, most fascinating thing around. We can manage it, it is already a scientific reality. We can manage healthier people, who will live as long as we want, and we can give them as much intelligence as is needed for their work.”

From the False to the Truth, Ch 29, Q 1

By carrying out cross-breeding in laboratories, women and men with many new qualities will emerge – a New Man not only consciousness-wise but also in physical form. Scientists must improve upon their research methods and tests to come up with the right methods to ensure proper development of the embryo. Somehow the idea of bar codes doesn’t quite cut it!

IT’S DIFFICULT TO BE A WOMAN IN THIS WORLD By Sarjano

“A Bangalore man has been arrested for torturing his three-month old baby,
furious over it being a girl. The baby in Bangalore is in a critical condition after being allegedly tortured by the father. The mother has declared that the man poisoned the child as he was upset it was a girl…”

Believe it or not, this was printed in ‘The Times of India’ on 10 April 2012.
I’m specifying the date so that you don’t think it happened during some medieval time!

No, this is happening today – the same way as it has been happening for the past 80,000 years or more.

How do I know that?

Well, to tell you the truth, one day, being tired of this story – men against women, and women reduced to the “inferior sex” – I decided to take a deep look into the matter, and that’s what I found out.

Men are never superior to women to any extent, or in any sector of life, except in their “muscular strength” – and that’s it. But this, only this, has been enough to declare a stupid sense of supremacy that still persists in this world, after over one hundred thousand years!

Please visualize this scene…
Men and women living together, with children that everybody shares with everybody else, since the institution of marriage is still far away, and for that matter even the father figure – because everybody could see who the mother was, but the father was mostly unknown, so every child was adopted by the entire tribe of men!

These primitive tribes were still nomads, and mainly they would take shelter for the night in some of the caves surrounding them. There were wild animals all over though, and in the night they would go in search of some prey, any prey, even human beings, hence it was better to block the entrance of the cave where they spent the night with some huge rock.

Now, who is going to do this job? The men, of course! And now I hope you understand where all this legendary supremacy comes from!
Just think that this role of “saviour of the tribe” has been played out every night for thousands and thousands of years by “the strong man”, and I don’t think you need anything else in order to be called “the superior sex”!

The reality is that man and woman are two parts of the same unity, and neither of them can be defined as “superior” to the other – it’s that simple.

Otherwise, watch out, little man, because if you want to indulge in this game, you’d better know that the woman is “superior” to man in so many ways:

She is more in touch with her emotions than any man.
She is magically connected with NATURE, with all the planets (with the exception of Mars!) with climate and the seasons.

And finally she is deeply connected with MYSTERY – by which I mean the mysterious part of our existence!
So, please, for your own sake, little man, do not compare!

Back to our present day, the little girl has finally died from the tortures inflicted on her by her own father, compelling even Shobhaa De, a great Indian writer and my mentor in the jungle of Indian publications, to write something about it in ‘The Times of India’ itself.
She wrote:

”There can be no bigger injustice in the world than the fate suffered by Baby Afreen.
In the case of Baby Afreen’s torture-filled 85 days on earth which have sent shock waves through the world, it also has a lot to do with the sad realization that Baby Afreen was not alone. There are thousands of little girls facing the same fate all over India.
The ugly truth is we remain a nation of boy-worshippers. Sickening as that sounds. And we are doomed to stay that way…”

No, Shobhaa, no!
I’ve seen myself that the women of India are waking up from this nightmare, and they are starting to reclaim their birthright, and even if it’s going to be a difficult journey, at the end they will prevail and establish themselves on this planet – I’m sure of it!

As Sri Sri Ravi Shankar told me one day:  “It is a difficult job, because we are just like a drop of sanity in an ocean of madness.”

But it can be done, IT HAS TO BE DONE!

Or, as another wise man said:
“NEVER HAS THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY SO DEPENDED UPON A BIGGER PARTICIPATION OF FEMALE ENERGY IN THIS WORLD!”

Meditate over it, because to tell you the truth, I’m tired of living in a country that discriminates against women in such a horrific way.  So watch out, little man, because I will be on your case unless you don’t change your attitude, you little monster!

THAT’S THE WAY IT IS! By Swami Satya Vedant

– “Hello, haven’t heard from you lately. How is it going?”
– “Not so good. I am having trouble with my landlord.”
– “Why, what happened?”
– “Nothing is working in this apartment. The water doesn’t come up, the electricity is down, the window doesn’t shut sideways, the roof needs fixing, and so forth.”
– “Why, that’s terrible! Why don’t you complain?”
– “What do you think? I have done that so many times that even my stomach cannot take anymore complaining.”
– “Well, let me cheer you up with this news story. In Berkeley, California, a city agency sponsored a poetry slam. Its advertisement in the local weekly, Berkeley Voice, read: ‘Have lousy landlord? Mad at the Manager? Put it into words!’”
– “What a great idea! Tell me more.”
– “Lured by prizes and responding to the complex emotions of the landlord-tenant relationship, about a dozen protesters seized the opportunity to recite original poems that addressed their trauma.
“One poem touched on the landlords of someone’s student days:
“’From the skirt-chasing alcoholic to the
80 year old pensioner to the
250 pound-overweight woman
 constantly reading get-rich-quick books.’

“And one person spoke of his youth recalling:
“’My last 20 dollars after rent went into groceries
that went rotten in the fridge
the landlord promised to fix
but never did.’”

  • “Hmm, very touching….I am sure a lot of people would feel as angry as you do. I wonder, though, would it not be great if we could learn how to manage our anger?”
  • “Is it always bad to feel angry?”
  • “Not necessarily, anger is a natural response to feeling hurt, attacked or injured. It is part of an energy expressing itself, it is human. Anger can also function as a friend helping one to fight back or defend. The way we are brought up and conditioned can also become source of our anger. Our parents, family, society, political leaders contribute in building a reservoir of anger within us.”

“What are the physical effects of Anger?”

“Anger, it is observed, might affect one’s:
digestion (contributing to the development of heartburn, ulcers, colitis, gastritis)
blood pressure
joints and muscle pains

The Emotional effects may include:

  • depression -- when the anger is turned inwards
  • addictions to alcohol, tobacco, or any illegal drugs
  • compulsions  including eating disorders, such as excessive dieting or binge-eating, overworking, unnecessary cleaning and any other behavior that is out of control.
  • Trying to make someone else feel bad, because one thinks it will make him or her feel better”

“Yes, but how do we do it? When I get angry, actually it is anger that gets me.”

  • “How true! Let me share with you Osho’s insight in how one can deal with anger and be free from it. He says:

“The first thing: it is useless just to be angry with someone and then create a chain. Then he will be angry and then more anger will be created, and this can continue. Everything has a continuity of cause and effect; it becomes a chain.
Don't suppress it in the system because that is too dangerous. Anger is poison, and when the body is ready to fight the blood is filled with poison…you have to act it out. If you don't go through a catharsis then you will have to suffer for it. It may become a physical disease, it may cripple your body, and it may poison your relationships – because you were not angry, but the anger was there.

So if you feel anger and you see it is going to be destructive to you and to the other person, move to your room, close the doors, take your pillow and beat it. Write the name of the person on the pillow and do whatsoever you wanted to do with the person.
In the beginning it will look absurd, but soon you will get into it and you will enjoy it. And the pillow is not going to answer, the pillow is not going to create any chain. Rather, on the contrary, the pillow will be very happy that you related with it.
Remember not to suppress, and remember not to create any chain. Once you learn the art you can be free of all these madnesses which come into you, without creating any disturbance in life. Every day catharsis is needed. Life is complex, and many things come into the mind which have to be thrown out.
That's why I emphasize Dynamic Meditation so much.”
OSHO
Vedanta: Seven Steps to Samadhi, Ch. 7

--“Thanks for sharing this beautiful insight.
Now Dynamic Meditation…the first thing tomorrow morning!”
--“Great! Stay cool. Bye!”
